Our adult learners got an extra leg up in their career development on Saturday, October 15 when students from the Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity at the University of Akron presented two workshops. In one, the AKPsi folks taught our students how to set up profiles on LinkedIn and use the online tool to manage and expand their professional networks. In the other, CORE students got pointers on appropriate dress, public speaking, and interviewing skills.

The business fraternity members were in the DC area for a “weekend of service.” More about their commitment to “give back” and what else they did around the region is online at Washington Life magazine. Thanks to our friend Jane Hess Collins for hooking us up!

A big THANK YOU to all for another successful round of computer distribution! The week of September 12, our volunteers helped CORE distribute nearly 90 computers with associated monitors, keyboards, mice, cables, and cords. Now our students can practice their new skills at home – and they have no excuses for not completing their homework!

Special mention goes to the volunteers in the refurb lab, who prepared all the computers. We bid a fond farewell to Ken Neidorf, board member and refurb team lead, who is transferring to Boston with his company. Ed Delacruz, now a seasoned refurb and distro veteran, is taking over the helm as the new team lead for the refurb lab.
