Radia

Radia currently attends the Monday and Wednesday Alexandria class from 7-10 pm. She has an Associates Degree in Accounting and a Bachelors Degree in Management Information Systems. She is also a Certified Nurse Assistant in Arlington, Virginia. She has worked at a bank, in a sales department, and as a Secretary. Radia specializes in bookkeeping and accounting, but has also been responsible for data entry. She is comfortable with the management and tracking of resources. She speaks English and Amharic. She types over 50 words per minute and is comfortable with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

Radia came to Computer CORE with some skills already. She is using the 6 month program to hone the more complicated tasks and to improve her confidence. As she told a friend, “It’s good to join Computer CORE, you have to, to have a brighter future.” An additional benefit to the training is Radia’s young children are keeping up with Mom in regards to computer skills.

Radia knows that she could be doing more to secure the future of her young children. She has the drive to succeed but hadn’t found the right opportunity until CORE. Radia came to the US in 2009 with lots of skills and experience from her home country, but hasn’t been given a good chance to prove herself here.  She hopes that improved computer skills and the CORE diploma lead to better employment opportunities.
