Why donate to us?
Getting new computers in your office? Before you return or recycle old laptops, consider donating them to Computer CORE.
As a 27-year-old nonprofit and a certified Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher, CORE refurbishes donated laptop computers and provides them to adult learners in need. Your donation extends the life of technology, supports digital equity, and reduces e-waste. You can read about our refurbishment process and learn about how to donate below.
What we Accept:
- Highest need: PC laptops that can run Windows 11
- PC laptops that cannot upgrade to Windows 11 (we install MX Linux)
- Mac laptops
We hold quarterly e-cycling days with responsible partner organizations such as Securis, eAssetSolutions, CheckSammy, and eWaste Warriors to allow you to donate items we can no longer accept due to space and volunteer labor considerations, including: desk top computers, monitors, servers, printers, scanners, fax machines, or items over 25 lbs. For Apple devices, please remove them from your iCloud account before donating.
Our Processes
Refurbishment Process
Our trained tech team follows industry best practices to prepare devices for reuse:
- All machines are factory reset
- A new operating system is installed (Windows or MX Linux)
- Data is cleared even if donors have already wiped the device
For organizations with higher-level security needs, please contact donna@computercore.org with your requirements. A fee may be requested.
Donation Process
- Schedule your drop-off through the safe and easy WaitSmart Notice app (we work virtually and in the filed, so we are not always in the office).
- Mail laptop donations to us at Computer CORE c/o ALX Community, 201 N Union Street, Ste. 110, Alexandria, VA 22314 (please contact us first to let us know about your donation).
- Donors receive a tax-deduction letter and the gratitude of our hardworking adult learners
